Caring for Your Heater in the Summer
What Should I Do With My Heater in the Summer?
How to Care for Your Heater Throughout the Summer
Frisco gets hot enough throughout the year that we don’t always need our heaters. However, what should you be doing with it to make sure it works come next winter? Just like your car or truck, your heater requires maintenance to run optimally and avoid breakdowns. Since you only turn on your heater a few times in the winter evenings, it sits dormant for most of its lifespan. Should you be doing something about it while it sits? Yes. There are a few things you can do to help preserve your heater’s lifespan in the warmer months. This helps assure that when winter rolls around, you can comfortably turn on your heater and avoid a chilly night without it.
Change the Air Filter
One of the most important tasks for maintaining your HVAC unit is changing the air filter. If you have a forced-air system in your home (furnace, air conditioning combination, or a heat pump), then you should change your filter every one to three months. You won’t use the heater as much in Texas, so you can probably change your heater filter every three months. However, we do recommend checking your filter every month to make sure it isn’t clogged or congested with debris.
Clean the Outdoor Unit
If you have a heat pump, it’s important to clean the outdoor cabinet and keep it clear of debris all year long. Your heat pump uses the same components to cool and heat. Make it a habit to check your cabinet monthly to clean it and remove shrubs, leaves, and other debris that can potentially block its function. A rule of thumb is to keep about a foot of clearance on all sides.
Inspect Any Causes for Repair
Most of us tend to forget that we even have a heater throughout Texas’s hotter months. However, on that first chilly night, you want to know that you have a reliable heater to keep you and your family warm. Don’t put off any repair or maintenance needs. At the first sign of an issue, call Air Masters LLS to schedule us to come out and repair your heater. Ignoring repairs can lead to bigger and more expensive repairs and possible replacements when you need them most.
Schedule Your Annual Maintenance
Before the winter rolls around, it’s important to schedule your heater tune-up to ensure safe and reliable operation throughout the winter. A licensed, expert technician can inspect all parts of your HVAC system and help make tunes, repairs, and other maintenance fixes. This also helps you avoid any serious problems down the road.
